Big Sky Water Conservation

The Big Sky Water Conservation Program is one of only two programs in Montana that seeks to inspire community members to engage in practices that save water, both at home and work. By partnering with major water managers, homeowners’ associations, property managers, developers, and other influential organizations, we are promoting water conservation in Big Sky. The program is funded by the Big Sky Resort Tax District, Big Sky Water and Sewer District, and Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. In a larger context, the Big Sky Water Conservation Program acts as a long-term mitigation strategy to build drought resiliency in the Upper Gallatin Watershed. Read more about our drought planning work here.

Through the Big Sky Water Conservation Program program, we offer rebates to residents who have installed water-efficient, WaterSense-labeled fixtures at their homes. Anyone living in the Big Sky Resort Area Tax District can apply for the Indoor and Outdoor Rebate Programs. Read more about each program below.

Indoor Rebate Program

The Task Force has offered rebates to Big Sky residents that prioritize water conservation in their homes by installing water efficient toilets, shower heads, and clothes washers since fall 2016. To qualify, all WaterSense labeled fixtures must have been installed after July 1, 2016. Rebate amounts vary. Applications will be processed on a first come, first serve basis through June 30, 2018. Please send all completed forms (rebate application, receipt or proof of purchase, and installation proof or picture) to bigskywaterconservation@gmail.com.

Outdoor Rebate Program

Newly launched this Spring 2017, the Outdoor Rebate Program is similar to the Indoor Program. Residents can receive rebates through the Outdoor Rebate Program for their efforts to increase water conservation in their landscape and irrigation practices by installing weather-based smart controllers, rain sensors, sprinkler heads and nozzles, and performing spring outdoor audits/system checkups. Outdoor audits/system checkups may be done by certified irrigation technician (receives rebate) or by following a self-guided check list. All products must be installed after July 1, 2016 to qualify. Applications will be processed on a first come, first serve basis through June 30, 2018. Please send all completed forms (rebate application, receipt or proof of purchase, and installation proof or device picture) to bigskywaterconservation@gmail.com.
